If you are not an independent financial advisor, you should be made to say at the beginning of any meeting with a client “I am a salesperson or a sales agent for a particular institution. I am unable to give you advice from the whole market. If you want advice on all possible products you must see an independent financial advisor.” If these simple sentences are communicated at the beginning of the meeting in this clear language many people will have their guard up and are more likely to take advice from other sources especially independent financial advisors who are not tied with either one or a restricted number of institutions, and consequently the probability of these miss-selling cases will be significantly mitigated.rn
